Friedrich von Poll

Friedrich von Poll (born February 28, 1902 in Arensburg on Ösel ; † 1983 ) was a German business representative and politician (before 1945 German Center Party , after 1945 co-founder of the CDU Hamburg).

Friedrich von Poll was born on February 28, 1902 in the Baltic town of Arensburg on Ösel . His father Odert von Poll (1869–1935) was the district administrator of the Ösel knighthood and heir to Medel. On March 30, 1932, he married Maruscha Freiin von Brandenstein (1906–1968).

Life

Von Poll studied economics at the Universities of Halle , Würzburg and Lausanne . During his studies in Würzburg he joined the student association Germania Lausanne, which was re-established in Würzburg at that time . In 1925 he completed his studies with a diploma in economics and was awarded a doctorate in 1926 with his dissertation entitled “The Cultural Autonomy Act of the Republic of Estonia and its significance for the European minority problem” at the University of Würzburg. rer pol. PhD. He then worked as an editor and employee of various daily newspapers. Until its dissolution in 1933, he was a member of the German Center Party . From 1924 to 1934 he was a consultant for the main German retail community . He was then from 1935 to 1938 managing director of the retail trade group and from 1938 to 1945 managing director of the Reichsgruppe Handel and the economic group foreign trade.

After 1945 von Poll was one of the founding members of the CDU in Hamburg and was a leading figure on the British Zone Advisory Council . In March 1946 he was elected in Hamburg alongside Paul Otto and Konrad Adenauer as CDU deputy for the British zone in the Hamburg zone advisory council.

From 1945 to 1946 he was also a managing member of the North Economic Council and from 1946 to 1962 Managing Director of the Koblenz Chamber of Commerce and Industry . Since 1947 he was also the managing director of the Working Group of Rhineland-Palatinate Chambers of Industry and Commerce.

In addition, von Poll was a board member of the Society for Regional Structural Policy in Bonn and a member of the foreign trade committee of the German Industry and Trade Conference , Bonn.
