Coat of arms of those of Poll

Poll is the name of one of the oldest Baltic noble families. The first documentary evidence goes back to the year 1325, in 1721 they were included in the nobility register of the Ösel knighthood . Some senior Swedish and Russian officers , as well as knight captains, emerged from the family.

history

The origin of the name "Poll" probably goes back to a Westphalian place called Poll or Polle. With Tilo and Andreas de Polle, the wierland vassals of the King of Denmark Christoph II (1276–1332) are notarized in 1325 . The progenitor of the ösel line is Hans Polle, who acquired the Cöln estate in 1498. His sons Bartholomäus (* around 1522) and Johann continued the offspring. While the Bartholomäus family line was later divided into the I. line (Haus Randefer ) and II. Line (Haus Cöln), and founded a Swedish branch that received the naturalization diploma in 1672, line III emerged from the Johannian line. (House Wexholm) who settled in Courland . The Kurlanders later returned to Ösel and were again part of lines I and II. Finally, the family was included in the nobility matriculation of the knighthood of Ösel, in 1839/1914 in Livonia and Estonia . Her properties on Ösel included: Medel , Wexholm, Clausholm, Wesselsdorf, Arromois , Cöln, Euküll , Feckerorth, Lulupäh , Pichtendahl , Rachk , Rannaküll and Turja .
