Balthasar Alexander Ludwig Odert von Poll (born February 28, 1869 in Arensburg , † June 6, 1935 in Carmel on Ösel ) was a German-Baltic nobleman and Baltic district administrator .

Life

Career

Balthasar Alexander received his first education in a private school in Adjamünde . After graduating from high school , he began training at a teaching estate and at an agricultural school in Germany , which he then completed at the “Livonian Adelsgüter Kreditsozietät” in Riga. He then worked temporarily as a farmer and traveled to Germany, France , Sweden , Austria and Italy . Since 1891 he was in possession of the Medel and Wexholm estates. He was the estate manager of Carmel and worked as a progressive farmer, so he was involved in a dairy , cheese factory and cattle breeding . He was a co-founder of the steamship company "Osilia". Other tasks followed, so he was, among other things, parish chairman , treasury deputy and convent deputy .

In 1917 he was sent by the Öselschen Knighthood and the Estonian Governor General Adolf von Seckendorff as envoy to the German Chancellor Count Georg von Hertling to present the wish to incorporate the Estonian island of Ösel (Estonian Saaremaa ) into the German Empire . In 1918 he was elected to the Oesel district administrator and was also the curator of the Marienstift in Arensburg. In 1920 he was arrested a few times, but then lived on in Arensburg and was deputy president of the Öselschen non-profit association, he was the initiator of the publication of the genealogical handbook of the Öselschen knighthood.

Origin and family

Balthasar Alexander von Poll came from the noble family von Poll , his father was the district administrator and judge Balthasar Adolf Gotthilf von Poll (1815-1891), who was married to Theone Emilie von Güldenstubbe (1842-1873) in his second marriage . Balthasar Alexander married Freiin Bertha von Stackelberg (* 1872) in 1894 . Her descendants were:
