Friedrich Adalbert Prince von und zu Liechtenstein (born September 21, 1807 in Vienna ; † May 1, 1885 ibid) was an Austrian general of the cavalry .

origin

Prince Friedrich was a son of Prince Johann I Josef von Liechtenstein (1760–1836) and Princess Josefa zu Fürstenberg-Weitra (1776–1848). Brother of General Franz von und zu Liechtenstein (1802–1887) and Prince Alois II von und zu Liechtenstein (1796–1858). Uncle of Prince Johann II von und zu Liechtenstein (1840–1929).

Life

Prince Friedrich von und zu Liechtenstein joined the Austrian Uhlan Regiment No. 2 as a lieutenant in 1827 and was promoted to lieutenant in Uhlan Regiment No. 6 in the same year . Promoted to major general on January 18, 1848 , Liechtenstein took part in the campaign of that year as a brigadier in Italy under Radetzky , where he fought in the battles of Santa Lucia (May 6), Montanara (May 29) and Volta (26 and July 27) and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Military Maria Theresa Order .

In 1849 he appeared as a general in the Schlick Corps on the Hungarian theater of war and was promoted to Lieutenant Field Marshal on June 20, 1849 . From 1850 to 1853 he was again a division general in Italy and from 1853 commanding general of VI. Army Corps in Kosice. From 1858 to 1860 he was the commander of the XII. Army Corps and Governor of Transylvania . Between 1854 and 1861 he was the owner of the Uhlan Regiment No. 3 and from 1861 to 1885 the owner of the Hussar Regiment No. 13.

On May 14, 1861 he was promoted to general of the cavalry and served as governor in the Banat and Syrmia until 1865 . At the beginning of the war of 1866, Prince Friedrich was scheduled to be in command of the 5th Army Corps of the Southern Army under Archduke Albrecht in Italy. But before the fighting began, he had to hand over command in the field to FML Rodich due to an illness . From 1866 to 1869 he was the commanding general in Hungary. On July 3, 1869 he was retired from the army, from 1872 he became a member of the manor house.

After his death, Prince Friedrich was blessed with military honors on May 4, 1885 from the Liechtenstein-Palais to the Michaelerkirche and later transferred to Wranau. Prince Friedrich was buried in the New Crypt of the Liechtenstein family crypt in Wranau , north of Brno, which he built.

marriage

Prince Friedrich married the kuk chamber singer Sophie Löwe (* March 24, 1815 - November 29, 1866 ) in 1848 , as the daughter of the actor Ferdinand Löwe (1787–1832). The marriage remained childless.
