Landgravine Maria Josefa Sophie zu Fürstenberg-Weitra (born June 21, 1776 in Vienna ; † February 23, 1848 ibid) was a princess from and to Liechtenstein .

Life and family

She was born in Vienna as the daughter of Landgrave Joachim Egon zu Fürstenberg-Weitra and his wife Countess Sophia Theresia zu Oettingen-Wallerstein . On April 12, 1792, she married Colonel Prince Johann I Josef von und zu Liechtenstein in Vienna, and from 1805 Prince and Regent of the House of Liechtenstein. The couple had thirteen children:

  • Alois II. Josef (May 26, 1796 - November 12, 1858), married Countess Franziska Kinsky von Wchinitz and Tettau in 1831
  • Sophie Maria Josepha (Vienna September 5, 1798 - June 17, 1869 ibid), married Count Vinzenz Esterhàzy Baron zu Galántha († 1835) in 1817; Princess Esterházy was the court lady of Empress Elisabeth and was immortalized in the "Sissy" films (portrayed by Helene Lauterböck ); Grave site: Wranau

Relationship with Beethoven

Princess Josefa is the recipient of Ludwig van Beethoven's piano sonata op. 27 No. 1 “Quasi una fantasia” , which was published in 1801.

Liechtenstein crypt in Wranau

Princess Josefa was buried at the side of her husband Johann I in 1848 in the New Crypt of the Liechtenstein family crypt in Wranau , north of Brno, which he built.
