The Friedrichsberg is 473 m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Steigerwald . It is located in the eastern part of the Kitzingen district in Lower Franconia .

Geographical location

The mountain is located in the western part of the Steigerwald and, like the Schwanberg , protrudes from the upstream Main Franconia. This makes it very striking, especially from the west side. On the mountain is the wasteland of Friedrichsberg . The wine village of Abtswind lies at the foot of the mountain .

history

The mountain was first settled in 1735. Casteller Count Johann Friedrich zu Castell-Rüdenhausen built Schloss Friedrichsberg there as a summer residence and hunting domicile. After the county was dissolved , the Friedrichsberg developed into a popular excursion destination for guests from the surrounding cities.

Attractions

Hunting lodge

The Friedrichsberg hunting lodge is located on the mountain . This had Johann Friedrich Graf und Herr zu Castell-Rüdenhausen built.

Quarry

On the steep western edges of the mountain there are huge sandstone quarries, which Balthasar Neumann visited three times in order to choose the best stones for the Würzburg residence .

Transmission mast

The transmitter mast on the Friedrichsberg

On the mountain there is a transmission mast with a bunker underneath, possibly a former RV (radio link) point of the warning service.

wine growing

There is a large and well-known wine-growing area on the western slopes of the mountain. The locations Abtswinder Altenberg and Greuther Bastel in the large location Abtswinder Schild can be found here
