Eat! -

Eat! is the seventh album by the German punk band Toxpack . It was released on September 12, 2014 on the independent label Better Than Hell , which is part of the Betontod environment. It is the band's most commercially successful sound carrier to date and reached number 16 in the German album charts .

History of origin

Even before the previous album Bastards von Morgen was released, Toxpack was in contact with the Betontod label Better Than Hell. Ultimately, Sunny Bastards was awarded the contract back then. For their seventh studio album, however, they decided to give Better Than Hell the contract to try something new. It was also decided not to work with producer Harris Johns anymore . During a tour with Stephan Weidner's band Der W , the band met Weidner's house producer Michael Mainx , who had already worked with the Böhsen Onkelz , Der W, DAD and Tankard . The production was therefore relocated to Studio23 in Frankfurt am Main .

As on previous albums, the songs were written by Tommi Tox, who was only supported by Erik Henning for the title track. Stephan Weiler (piano) and Mathias Wendt (background vocals) could be won as guest musicians . Stephan Weidner is also featured as a guest singer on a song.

The album was released on September 12, 2014 as LP and CD version. The distribution was taken over by Edel .

Cover artwork

The cover artwork shows a critique of capitalism . Red devils put consumer goods such as iPods , smartphones , french fries, cola , cigarettes or a hamburger with a US flag , money and a wooden cross with the words “Obey” instead of INRI in the mouth of a fat head . Two devils nail the words "Friss!" To the forehead.

Song info

The album begins with a piano intro recorded by Stephan Weiler and the orchestration by Patrik Bishay. Hamlet also plays the outro Bellaria . The two pieces form the framework of the album.

Stephan Weidner, bassist for Böhsen Onkelz and his solo project Der W, took on the guest vocals for the song Don't hear, see, say , which deals with everyday racism . The video for this song was released on YouTube on September 9, 2015, three days before the album was released. The song includes the line " that they are again vor'm refugee camp, as 22 years ago / With vollgepisster pants and raised right arm " an allusion to a photo of Martin Langer , the 38-year-old Harald Ewert with eingenässter sweatpants while showing shows the Hitler salute. In addition to the personal friendship, Weidner's past as bassist and main lyricist for the former right-wing rock band Böhse Onkelz was a motive for his commitment as a guest singer. This did not meet with unreserved approval from many fans of the band.

The song Transatlantik Rendezvous is an ironic appraisal of the NSA bugging affair .

Music genre

After the previous album Bastarde von Morgen was very hard rock and metal- heavy, the songs on Friss have become closer to punk rock and more melodic again. Singer Daniel Schulz's vocals also sound less brutal now, on the contrary, he often used a rather clear, or, as the band puts it, “slightly roughened” vocals on this album. The background is the more personal lyrics of the album.
