Fritz Benesch (alpinist)
Fritz Benesch , actually Friedrich Benesch (born April 12, 1864 in Misslitz , Moravia , † June 29, 1949 in Vienna ) was an Austrian alpinist , photographer and non-fiction author.
Life
Fritz Benesch, who has a doctorate in law , has published numerous books on the Austrian Alps . With the Benesch scale ( "Comparative ranking of the climbs according to their difficulty" ), he introduced the first difficulty scale for climbing in 1894 .
He was one of the pioneers of landscape photography in tourism advertising , Friederike Kaiser describes him as the “court photographer of the German and Austrian Alpine Association”.
A plaque commemorates Fritz Benesch near the Otto-Schutzhaus on the Rax .
