Fritz Clemens Werner

Fritz Clemens Werner (born May 20, 1896 in Leipzig , † June 29, 1975 ibid) was a German zoologist and professor at the University of Leipzig .

Life

Werner studied zoology , botany and chemistry . Approx. For 20 years he was a researcher at medical institutes . In 1948 he became a university lecturer in Leipzig and in 1949 a professor with a teaching position. From 1949 to 1952 he was acting director of the Zoological University Institute. In 1961 he retired .

Act

During his studies, Werner created a card index with a collection of Latin , Greek and other word components . He added to this collection during his research at the medical institutes. He is the author of the reference work word elements of Latin-Greek technical terms in the biological sciences , which is widely used in specialist circles , which was first published in 1956 and is primarily intended for biologists, physicians and veterinarians - especially for students of biology , medicine and veterinary medicine and above all for those who in their schooling no Latin or - Greek had -classes, in the study but with a wealth of technical terms are confronted, which are composed of Greek and Latin word elements. He wrote it on the basis of a collection of material that he had started decades ago.
