Fritz Dettmann (economic functionary)

Fritz Dettmann (born August 22, 1921 in Kummerow ; † November 4, 1972 in Bulgaria ) was a German economic functionary in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). From 1967 to 1972 he was General Director of the Association of Publicly Owned Enterprises (VVB) Deep Sea Fisheries in Rostock .

Life

Dettmann, the son of a bricklayer , started an apprenticeship as a machinist after completing elementary and vocational school . In 1941 he was drafted into the German Wehrmacht and fought with the rank of lieutenant until the end of the war in 1945 in World War II . In 1945 he was taken prisoner by the Soviets and was employed as a brigadier in road construction in the Soviet Union until 1949 . During this time he attended an antifa school in the POW camp in 7399 .

In December 1949 Dettmann returned to Germany and settled in Stralsund , where he worked as a locksmith in 1950 and later as a foreman at the Stralsund shipyard. In the same year he joined the Free German Youth (FDJ) and began studying at the State Engineering School for Mechanical Engineering in Wismar , which he graduated in 1953 as an engineer for marine engineering.

From 1953 to 1957 Dettmann was a designer , then until 1960 the main designer at VEB Volkswerft Stralsund . In 1955 he joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). In 1960 he became director of technology at the Stralsund shipyard. From 1966 he also held this position in the superordinate VVB Schiffbau Rostock . From 1967 to 1972 Dettmann was General Director of VVB Hochseefischerei in Rostock.

In 1972 Dettmann died in a plane crash in Bulgaria.
