Fritz Hofbauer

Fritz Hofbauer (born May 11, 1884 in Vienna ; † December 10, 1968 there ) was an Austrian actor and radio play speaker .

Life

Fritz Hofbauer began his artistic career in 1904. Even during the era of Max Reinhardt , he was part of the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. After the Second World War , Hofbauer played at Scala Vienna until it was closed in 1956 and moved to the former GDR that same year , where he appeared again at the Deutsches Theater, as well as at the Volksbühne and Maxim Gorki Theater . As early as 1939 he was seen in a performance of Winnetou by Karl May on the Felsenbühne Rathen .

Hofbauer also began working in front of the camera during the silent film era. In 1917 he starred in an early film adaptation of the Rasputin material and the crime film Das Mysterium des Schloss Clauden , directed by Rudolf Meinert . Even after the talk of the sound film, Hofbauer was occasionally seen on the screen. In 1934 he played the character of Walter Fürst in Heinz Paul's film version of Wilhelm Tell . After 1945 he worked in several Austrian productions, later he shot for DEFA and GDR television . Between 1959 and 1963 Hofbauer also occasionally worked as a radio play speaker.
