Fritz Kloevekorn

Fritz Kloevekorn (born October 26, 1885 in Strasbourg ; † May 3, 1964 in Saarbrücken ) was a German historian and professor.

Life

Kloevekorn was born in 1885 as the son of a teacher. From 1895 he attended grammar school until he was “ one year old ” and then from 1901 to 1904 did an apprenticeship as a bookseller. He then studied German literature , history , philosophy and economics in Strasbourg and Paris until 1909 and received his doctorate in Strasbourg. Between 1909 and 1911 he did a legal clerkship in Metz and Gebweiler .

In 1911 he became a lecturer in German studies at the German-Chinese University in Shanghai , but after three years he switched to teaching in Forbach . In 1917 he was transferred to Gebweiler and in the same year to Colmar . But he could not stay there long either, he was called up for military service in 1917 and worked until the end of the war.

He was expelled from France after World War I after refusing to apply for French citizenship. In 1919/1920 he worked as a teacher at the girls' reform secondary school “Cecilienschule” in Saarbrücken, then as a senior teacher at the Ludwigsgymnasium . In 1925 he was appointed professor. During the Second World War he was a teacher in Dieuze from 1940 to 1944 . After the war Kloevekorn worked from 1956 to 1962 as a teacher at the business school in Saarbrücken.

Kloevekorn died in 1964 and was buried in the old cemetery in Alt-Saarbrücken .

Research priorities

Kloevekorn primarily researched the history of the Saarland and wrote numerous books on the subject. From 1931 to 1950 he was chairman of the historical association for the Saar region .
