Fritz Lemmermayer

Fritz Lemmermayer (born March 26, 1857 in Vienna ; † September 11, 1932 there ) was an Austrian writer and journalist .

Life

The father Carl Lemmermayer, a portrait painter, died early, so that the mother Anna († 1886), a pianist, had to raise four underage children alone. From 1876 Fritz Lemmermayer studied philosophy, history and literature in Vienna . Soon he was already writing articles for journals. His circle of friends included Robert Hamerling and Johann Fercher von Steinwand , but above all Friedrich Hebbel and Richard Wagner . In 1887 Lemmermayer worked in Genoa on the collection and publication of Friedrich Hebbel's letters.

Brogyán Castle

On March 31, 1900 Lemmermayer wanted to commit double suicide with his friend Hugo Astl-Leonhard (* 1870), editor-in-chief of the magazine Trautes Heim . While the friend died, Lemmermayer survived. He then retired to the castle of Prince Elimar von Oldenburg in Brogyán for 25 years . After returning to Vienna, Lemmermayer came into the circle of Richard Kralik and became friends with Rudolf Steiner , whose Anthroposophical Society he joined in 1926.
