Fritz Lendi (born June 8, 1896 in Davos Platz GR ; † May 21, 1967 in Bad Ragaz SG ) was a Swiss writer , author of historical novels, journalist , editor and politician .

Life

Fritz Lendi was born on June 8, 1896 in Davos Platz as the son of Friedrich Lendi and Mathilde Lendi-Mossdorf. His parents ran the Lendi bakery in Davos Platz. His brother Christian Lendi was born on November 14, 1899. The mother comes from a family from Saxony who had shopped in the canton of Thurgau. She grew up in Altstätten in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley. One of the family's descendants was their nephew Albert Mossdorf .

In 1907 his parents died. Together with his brother, he then grew up with relatives on his mother's side in Herisau in Appenzell . After finishing secondary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a typesetter in the book printer of the Appenzeller Zeitung from 1912 to 1916 .

During the First World War , the young typesetter was rolling through Germany. It took him from Karlsruhe via Vaihingen an der Enz and Penig to Mittweida in Saxony. He was then called up for active service in the Swiss Army . In 1918, after the end of the First World War, his professional path as a typesetter took him to Reinach, Bern, Olten, Heiden and Mels.

In 1920 he founded a family with the teacher's daughter Ursula Marty (born November 3, 1890 - November 17, 1984) from Malans , from which his son Fritz Lendi (1922-2014) and his daughter Lukretia Mathilda Lendi (born January 17, 1927) came . In 1928 he moved to Bad Ragaz . This became the actual field of activity and the second home of Fritz Lendi.

In 1928 he was appointed editor of the Ragaz-Pfäfers foreign newspaper . In 1930 he also took over the editing of the Sarganserländische Volkszeitung (later it was called Der Freie Oberländer ). In these functions he shaped the political and economic development of the municipality of Bad Ragaz and the Sarganserland for thirty years until his retirement.

In 1930 his first work, Schild und Wappen - Primavera, was published by the Association for the Dissemination of Good Writings. Further works followed, including Gesegnete Wasser (1954) with the historical story of Bad Pfäfer and the life of Bernhard Simon . For the SRG he edited, among others ethnographic transmit programs for which he was awarded the Radio Price eastern Switzerland 1,961th

In 1940, in addition to managing the Sarganserländische Volkszeitung , he took over the management of the feature pages of Der Freie Rätier in Chur, the predecessor of the Bündner Zeitung . Working in the liberal press was an inner concern of the journalist. As a political editor, Fritz Lendi recognized the dangers that Nazi Germany threatened Switzerland in the 1930s and war years. In numerous articles and lectures he called on his readers and listeners to defend the country spiritually .

Politically, he was at the head of the Free Democratic Party of the Sargans district. As chairman of the Young Liberal Movement of the Canton of St. Gallen, he was elected to the Cantonal Parliament, the Grand Council of the Canton of St. Gallen, for three terms . As a school inspector he was responsible for all school rooms in the Sarganserland.

In July 2019, the Ragazetta took up the Ragazetta years of Bernhard Simon in a special edition with excerpts from the work Gesegnete Wasser by Fritz Lendi.
