Fritz Lindner
Fritz Lindner (born October 9, 1901 in Crailsheim , † July 30, 1977 in Chur ) was a German biochemist .
Life
Fritz Lindner came from Crailsheim. His father Ludwig ran a factory for "steam soaps and soda". After attending school in Crailsheim and Schwäbisch Hall , he began studying chemistry at what was then the Technical University of Stuttgart. He followed his father's wish, even though he actually wanted to study medicine. In Stuttgart he joined the Alemannia Stuttgart fraternity in 1920 . In 1923 he moved to Munich to study with Hans Fischer . In 1926 he received his doctorate with Fischer with a thesis on deuteroporphyrins with distinction.
After completing his studies, he started working at the pharmaceutical and scientific laboratory at the Hoechst paint factory . He focused on isolating hormones here . Lindner developed a separation process for the pituitary hormones oxytocin and vasopressin , which could then be used as drugs. He then devoted himself to the extraction of insulin from pancreatic glands and was able to significantly increase the yield and purity by improving the process.
In 1950 he took over the management of the biochemical and microbiological laboratory. In 1960 Lindner became head of pharmaceutical research and in 1962 head of the entire pharmaceutical division at Hoechst. From 1963 to 1966 Lindner was a member of the company's board of directors.
