Location of Belitz in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district

Belitz (altslaw. Bel = white ) is a village in the municipality coasts in the Samtgemeinde Lüchow (Wendland) in Lower Saxony Lüchow-Dannenberg . The place is 6 km northwest of Lüchow south of the county road from Lübeln to Metzingen in the Niederen Geest on the upper reaches of the Lübelner Mühlenbach. Belitz is a well-preserved round building with ten courtyard plots. The traditional buildings are only partially preserved. A modified two-column house and three four-column houses characterize the townscape. There is no full-time farm in the village more, but a country hotel and since 1975 a private home for young people.

history

The place is listed in the Lüneburg Lehnsregister from 1330 as Belitze . As part of the municipal reform in 1972, the previously independent municipality of Belitz became a part of the coastal area. The population decreased in the last 150 years from over eighty (1848) to less than twenty inhabitants. When the youth home is fully occupied it doubles the population of the village.
