history

First mentioned probably in 1296 as Geithin, the place is certainly mentioned in 1368 as Ghetlin. Listed as Gettyn in the Winsener treasure register from 1450 . Göttien is one of the best preserved rounds in the Wendland. The houses were built in the 18th and 19th centuries. On October 4th, 1847 part of the village burned down. They were then relocated and rebuilt at a greater distance. The old trees on the village square and the traditional building fabric create an unmistakable townscape. The entire Rundling is a monument. Several mining sites were created in the 19th century on Kreisstraße 31, which leads past Rundling in the west. Further to the west, a new development area with six building sites was completed in 2013. As part of the municipal reform in 1972, the previously independent municipality of Göttien became a district of the coastal area. The population was just over two hundred in 1848 and fell to less than one hundred by 1987.
