Alex Gernandt

Alex Gernandt (* 1965 ) is a German journalist, author and former editor-in-chief of the youth magazine Bravo .

Professional background

Alex Gernandt worked as editor and chief reporter for Bravo since 1988, from July 1999 as deputy editor-in-chief and from January 2012 to May 2013 as editor-in-chief. During this time he developed various booklet concepts for the Bauer publishing group , including Comet, Kerrang! and the Bravo HipHop Special. In 1995 he published "Always & Forever", a biography about Bon Jovi (Goldmann / Random House Verlag). As Bravo editor-in-chief, he was involved in the “Stop hunger” campaign for Welthungerhilfe .

Gernandt conducted over 1000 interviews with stars such as Michael Jackson , Paul McCartney , Tina Turner , Robert DeNiro , Madonna , Beyoncé , Michail Gorbatschow , Franck Ribéry , Tom Hanks , Metallica , Aerosmith , AC / DC , Bon Jovi , Guns n 'Roses , Queen , Roxette , Bruno Mars , Jennifer Lopez , Shakira , Britney Spears , Christina Aguilera , Justin Timberlake , Xavier Naidoo , Udo Lindenberg , Jay-Z , 50 Cent , Dr. Dre , Giorgio Moroder , Jared Leto and Pharrell Williams . He is a special member of the German Elvis Presley Society.

For six years (1993 to 1999) he accompanied Michael Jackson as chief reporter and reported, among other things, exclusively on two world tours (" Dangerous ", " HIStory ") and the video shoots for " They don't care about us " in the slums of Rio and " Scream ”in Hollywood, the most expensive music video in pop history to date.

As a talent scout, he discovered and promoted previously unknown newcomers such as Tokio Hotel , Sunrise Avenue , Sarah Connor , LaFee , Sido , Revolverheld , Kesha , Silbermond , Juli und die Killerpilze . For this he was awarded the Echo in 2007 and the Bavarian Music Lion in 2009 .

As a music expert, he has appeared more than 300 times on TV, including on Spiegel TV, "60 Years of Rock & Pop" with Thomas Gottschalk (RTL), at documentary events about Michael Jackson, Tina Turner and Elvis Presley (VOX ), in all episodes of the series “Number One” with Markus Kavka (Kabel Eins / ZDF), in the series “Queens Of Pop” (arte), in the talk show by Johannes B. Kerner (ZDF) and various times on RTL Punkt12 and Exclusiv, ARD Brisant, VOX Prominent, ProSieben taff and ZDF people today. He commented live on the funerals of Michael Jackson (2009) and Whitney Houston (2012) on n-tv.

Today he lives as a media consultant and freelance author ( Spiegel Online et al.) In Munich . He is currently in charge of the German newcomer metalcore band No Need to Stay .
