Schwiepke (altslav. Svepet = forest beehive) is a district of the municipality of coastal in the combined municipality of Lüchow (Wendland) in the district of Lüchow-Dannenberg in Lower Saxony . The place is 7 km west of Lüchow in the Niederen Geest (also Vor-Geest).
In 1296 the Mecklenburg record book mentions the place for the first time as "Szweput". Until 1850 Schwiepke was an exemplary, regularly trained Rundling . In 1856 or 1857 the village was destroyed by fire. During the reconstruction, a road breakthrough was created and the characteristic elements of the circular structure were destroyed. In 1929, a family of blacksmiths from coastal took over the forge in Schwiepke, which has existed since 1815 . The population was over fifty in the 19th century until the Weimar period. After the Second World War , it rose briefly due to the immigration of refugees and has since declined again. In 1972, as part of the municipal reform , the previously independent municipality became a district of coastal. Schwiepke belongs to the Meuchefitz parish .
