Seerau (slav. Zirava = pastureland) is a district of the municipality of coastal in the joint municipality of Lüchow (Wendland) in the Lower Saxony district of Lüchow-Dannenberg . The place is 5 km west of Lüchow in the Niederen Geest in the neighborhood of Meuchefitz .
In 1330 the village of Zireve was first mentioned in the Lüneburg feudal register. At the beginning of the 19th century, the village consisted of eight adjacent courtyards that are grouped around a triangular village square. The arrangement can no longer be recognized today due to changes in the buildings and merging of courtyards. The population fluctuated around 70 in the 19th century. Seerau and Meuchefitz are merged into one municipality in 1929 and in 1972 as part of the municipal reform into a district of coastal. Seerau belongs to the Meuchefitz parish.
