Fritz Sattler

Fritz Sattler (born June 1, 1896 in Suhl ; † November 1, 1964 there ) was a German KPD and SED functionary and publisher. He was district council chairman in the Suhl district.

Life

As the son of an engraver and a maid, Sattler completed an apprenticeship as an administrative clerk after primary school and then worked, with interruptions, as an administrative assistant for the city of Suhl. In August 1919 Sattler became a member of the USPD and from 1920 a member of the KPD . From January 1921 he took over the management of the printing house and the publishing house “Volkswille”. After the spin-off of the Lenin Federal 1928 he founded the publishing house "workers will" in Suhl, in 1929 head of the Thuringian "People's Publishing House Gotha", on August 1, 1930 Head of the Communist Party publishing house stands in Magdeburg and 8 June 1932 to March 1933 Head of KPD publishing house "Kampf" in Chemnitz . After the newspaper was banned from being unemployed, Sattler was arrested in June / July 1933. From 1934 to 1935 he worked illegally as the political leader of the KPD district of Chemnitz. He was arrested on April 16, 1935, and sentenced by the People's Court in Berlin to seven years in prison in Waldheim on October 18, 1935, and transferred to Sachsenhausen concentration camp in April 1942 .

Career in the GDR

After the liberation, Fritz Sattler became politically active again and was employed in the administration. From August 1, 1945 to September 18, 1946 he was second mayor of the city of Suhl, from September 19, 1946 to November 25, 1946, he was provisional district administrator of the Eichsfeld district in Heiligenstadt and again on November 26, 1946 to December 31, 1947 appointed as 2nd mayor of the city of Suhl. In 1948 he was mayor of the city of Zella-Mehlis . From 1946 to 1950 he was a member of the Thuringian state parliament , became head of department in the Thuringian Ministry of Finance in Weimar and later in Erfurt . By decision of the Politburo , he was in 1952 with the introduction of the districts in the GDR as Chairman of the District Council for the newly formed District Suhl determined and remained until 1958 on this point. He was replaced in November 1958 and made an honorary citizen of the city of Suhl in 1958 because of "insufficiently combative and non-tight leadership style towards the council members and other employees" and for health reasons. From 1952 to 1964 he was a member of the Suhl district assembly and also a member of the Suhl district leadership of the SED . In addition, from 1959 to 1964, Sattler was chairman of the Suhl district commission for research into the history of the local labor movement.
