Fritz Schälike
Fritz Schälike (born October 19, 1899 in Berlin ; † January 30, 1963 there ) was a German publisher.
Life
Schälike comes from a Berlin working-class family: his father was a pipe fitter, his mother a worker. From 1905 to 1913 he attended elementary school and then an advanced training school. He completed a commercial training and was recruited for military service in an airship unit in 1918. In 1919 he got a job as an accountant at a credit institution. In that year he also became a member of the Free Socialist Youth .
In 1920 he joined the KPD in and took over from 1921 to 1930 the management of the publishing house of the Communist Youth International (CYI) in Berlin, which is why he in 1927 because of "literary high treason " by the Supreme Court with imprisonment was punished. In 1931 he left the staff of the KJI and worked for the Communist International (KI) in Moscow in the Redisdat department . At the same time he was sales manager of the German-speaking department of the publishing cooperative of foreign workers in the USSR . In 1934 and 1935 he attended evening classes at the Communist University of the National Minorities of the West .
In 1938 he protested together with his wife Luise Schälike against the arrest of the later deputy minister of culture of the GDR Erich Wendt and was therefore dismissed from his functions. In 1941 he took over the management of the German-speaking youth channel Sturmadler in Moscow, a program of the German national broadcaster of the NKFD . In 1942 and 1943 he was reactivated as an employee of the KI. From 1943 to 1945 he worked alongside his work for the German national broadcaster at Institute 205 at the Central Committee of the CPSU .
In May 1945 he was delegated to party work with Anton Ackermann's KPD initiative group , where he took over the publication of the Saxon People's Newspaper in Dresden . In 1946 he became head of the Neuer Weg Berlin publishing house , which in the same year was merged with Vorwärts-Verlag to form JHW Dietz Nachf. GmbH . Schälike headed this publishing house, renamed Dietz-Verlag in 1947 and functioning as a party publisher of the SED until 1962. In this capacity he became a member of the publishers' committee in 1947 and a member of the main committee of the stock exchange association in 1958 . Under Schälike's direction, Dietz-Verlag published large editions of works by Stalin (from 1950; canceled 1955), Lenin (from 1955) and the Marx-Engels works (from 1956). From 1954 to 1958 he was a candidate for the Central Revision Commission of the SED . From 1962 he received a disability pension.
Schälike had three children. His daughter Waltraut Schälike (* 1927) is a historian and Marx researcher.
