Fritz Schönpflug (born June 15, 1873 in Vienna , † February 18, 1951 ibid) was an Austrian caricaturist , painter, graphic artist and postcard artist .

biography

Schönpflug's training was largely self-taught . He was co-founder and artistic director of the humorous weekly “ Die Muskete ” (1905–1941), but also worked for other magazines, such as the “Wiener fiegen Blätter”, the “Wiener Figaro”, the “Bomb” and the “Sketch” London. He was also an excellent horse draftsman. As a postcard artist he is known for his depictions of Viennese types and caricatures from life in the Austro-Hungarian army . He created around 1,000 templates for the Vienna postcard publisher Brothers Kohn Vienna (BKW) . Schönpflug also designed advertising posters, etc. a. Warning notices for passengers on Vienna's trams (1910) and cover drawings of brochures.

Schönpflug was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus from 1906 to 1936 , and in 1949 he was awarded the title of Professor .

He is buried in an honorary grave at Baumgartner Friedhof (group E, no. 72).
