Fritz Schieri

Fritz Franz Schieri (born March 27, 1922 in Munich ; † February 24, 2009 in Dachau ) was a German composer and conductor.

Life

Schieri grew up in Munich and graduated from the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich in 1940 .

After war, wounding and imprisonment, Schieri was able to begin his studies at the Munich Music Academy in 1946 . In 1947 he founded a student madrigal choir, in 1948 he became a lecturer in music theory and choral conducting at the Cologne University of Music and Dance . In the Werkgemeinschaft Musik he led choir weeks and seminars for choir leaders in Altenberg and in the Wies .

From 1959 to 1990 Schieri was professor of choral conducting, composition and music theory at the University of Music and Theater in Munich . From 1972 to 1981 he was president of the university. For his services he was made honorary president in 1987. His students include:

Works

Schieri took part in the ecumenical translation of the psalms, in the working group on music in worship and in the standard hymn book Praise to God , here above all through numerous verses. He created sacred and secular choral works, cantatas, proprias , ballads, over a thousand solo songs with piano accompaniment, song sets and canons.
