Fritz Wortelmann

Fritz Wortelmann (born March 13, 1902 in Werne , today in Bochum , † April 1, 1976 ) was a German author, editor , publisher , dramaturge and promoter of puppet theater in Germany.

Act

Wortelmann was very committed to puppetry as early as the 1920s . Even after the Second World War he worked on the reconstruction of the German puppet theater scene. In 1950 he was the initiator of the German Institute for Puppetry (DIP). As a successor institution, the German Forum for Puppet Theater and Puppetry (dfp) was founded in Bochum in 1992 . Wortelmann also founded the Figure Theater School in Bochum.

In November 1958, as director of the German Institute for Puppetry, Wortelmann invited for the first time to a "series of presentations by outstanding German and foreign theaters - masters of puppetry" in Bochum. Puppeteers from Stuttgart , East Berlin , Paris and Moscow took part. This laid the foundation stone for the renowned international puppet theater festival FIDENA ( Puppet Theater of Nations ).
