The Fukareksee is a brackish lake connected to the Baltic Sea at Darßer Ort in the area of the municipality Born a. Darß in the district of Western Pomerania-Rügen , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
The elongated lake, which tapers to the south, has an approximate area of 9.3 hectares with a length of 780 meters and a maximum width of 200 meters. It is located in the protection zone I (core zone) of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park and is not directly accessible. About 150 meters away from its west bank is a viewing platform on a circular hiking trail.
In " National Park Info " No. 6 in September 1996, it was suggested that the previously unnamed lake be named after Franz Fukarek in honor of him. Fukarek contributed essential natural history to the Darß.
Emergence
Part of the Baltic Sea was cut off in the 1980s by sand deposits and the formation of spits , and a new lake was created behind a narrow beach wall . Originally this still had a connection to the port of emergency Darßer Ort at its southern end before this connection also silted up. In the last decade there was another passage to the Baltic Sea, this time at its northern end. In the meantime, the separating beach wall has been removed for about two thirds of its length, so that the lake has become a sea bay again (status: 2013).
