Full Throttle ( English for full throttle ) in the US theme park Six Flags Magic Mountain ( Valencia , California ) is a steel roller coaster type Launched Coaster from manufacturer Premier Rides , which opened on June 22, 2013. On the 671-meter-long and 49-meter-high route, the trains are accelerated by two LSM sections to a maximum speed of 113 km / h and run through the world's highest vertical loop of a roller coaster at the time of opening at 49 meters . In addition, when it opened , Full Throttle was the only roller coaster with a top hat directly on the loop.

history

At the end of December 2012, Premier Rides announced that the company would build the world's highest and fastest roller coaster with vertical looping in Six Flags Magic Mountain, California. Shortly after which located in the way Wildwasserbahn Log Jammer was closed on 31 October 2011 and demolished, began with the construction work. On March 7, 2012, a report appeared in the Los Angeles Times , which contained further details about the train, including the name. On April 4, 2012, Six Flags applied for trademark protection for the name "Full Throttle" as a ride.

Full Throttle was officially announced on August 28, 2012 . In mid-November, opaque construction fences were set up to restrict the view of the construction site. The first rail parts were delivered in mid-December. At the end of February 2013, the construction of the rail construction began before the rails closed on April 12, 2013. On June 22, 2013, Full Throttle was officially opened.

layout

The dive loop in front of the tunnel

The unthematic station of Full Throttle is open at the top and at the sides. After the train has been cleared by the park staff, it is accelerated out of the station to 110 km / h in the 49 meter high vertical loop with the help of the first of two linear synchronous motors (LSM). The train travels through a right-left combination of curves and after a dive loop arrives in a tunnel, where it is brought to a standstill by the stators of the second LSM section. The LSM modules then accelerate the train in the opposite direction to its original direction of travel, so that it is partially catapulted back into the dive loop. The train then rolls out of the dive loop back into the tunnel and is further accelerated by the LSM modules. This is followed by a left turn, after which the train runs over the top hat, which is on the outside of the loop. The train is decelerated by eddy current brakes while still on the top hat and returns to the station after a 180 ° left turn.

A ride takes about one minute and 30 seconds.

The 671 meter long three-belt rail from Full Throttle reaches a height of 49 meters at its highest point, the top hat on the loop. The rail is painted white and the supports are black.

Trains

Two trains painted white are used on Full Throttle . Each train has three carriages with three rows for two people each, so that one train can hold 18 passengers. The theoretical capacity is 800 people per hour. The passengers are held in their seats by lap bars.

reception

Full Throttle was received mostly positively by critics. Brady MacDonald of the Los Angeles Times stated while driving on Full Throttle : "Great". The train starts “silky smooth and whisper softly”. He compared the LSM launch with a rocket launch and criticized the early intervention of the brakes at the end of the top hat.

Robert Niles from the Theme Park Insider website praised the use of lap bars instead of shoulder bars on Full Throttle . However, he criticized the low capacity of the train and advised visitors to be prepared for a long wait.
