The New Revolution [ revəˈluːʃn ] in Six Flags Magic Mountain ( Valencia , California , USA ) is a steel roller coaster manufactured by Schwarzkopf , which opened on May 8, 1976 as the Great American Revolution in what was then Magic Mountain . It drove under this name until 1980, but was then renamed La Revolución for 1981 , under which it drove until 1987. It was then renamed and operated under the name Revolution for 28 years . With the conversion to the Virtual Reality Coaster, it was renamed The New Revolution again . Revolution is a main theme in the American film roller coaster , as well as in some commercials at the time.

It was the first roller coaster with a modern loop . In the 1970s, Werner Stengel and Anton Schwarzkopf developed a looping in the form of a clothoid , which made the loops drivable in the first place without fear of damage to the health of the passengers. In June 2002, a plaque was erected in front of the entrance, calling the Revolution one of the Coaster Landmarks of the American Coaster Enthusiasts , as it was the first steel loop roller coaster.

During the construction work for the new Tatsu roller coaster in 2005, parts of the roller coaster had to be dismantled to make room for the new roller coaster. It reopened with Tatsu on Tatsu Press Day on May 11, 2006.

For the 2016 season, the roller coaster was converted into one of the first virtual reality coaster. Visitors can optionally wear virtual reality glasses while driving . While the roller coaster goes, the visitor sees a 360 ° science fiction film.

Trains

Revolution trains each have five cars. Four people (two rows of two people) can be seated in each car. These were originally equipped with pelvic brackets, but were later retrofitted with shoulder brackets. With the conversion to the Virtual Reality Coaster, new trains were procured. These again have pelvic brackets. The passengers must be at least 1.22 m tall to be allowed to ride.
