Carmine Macaluso (born June 9, 1954 in Naples ) is an Italian-born teacher for mother tongue supplementary lessons (MEU) and a functionary of the Christian labor movement of Italy (ACLI) in Germany. There he was federal chairman from 2005 to 2013.

Life

Macaluso was born in Naples in 1954 and grew up in the Sicilian city of Viagrande . He studied German and French in Catania and Milan . In 1976 he emigrated to Germany and settled first in Munich , then in Allgäu . Since 1980 he has been teaching Italian students the Italian language and Italian culture as a MEU teacher in Kaufbeuren and other school locations in Swabia.

Social and party political engagement

In 1980 he was a co-founder of the ACLI sub-association in Marktoberdorf -Kaufbeuren, which he has been president since 1988. In 1996 he was elected regional chairman of the ACLI Bavaria and followed in April 2005 Teresa Baronchelli in the office of national chairman of the association.

In Munich he was twice president of the Committee of Italians Abroad, founded in 1991 in the consular district of Munich, Com.It.Es. Munich (Abbreviation for Comitati degli Italiani all'Estero Munich ; also ComItEs di Monaco di Baviera ), once from July 18, 1992 to December 15, 1995 and again from July 8, 1997 to January 14, 2000. The Com.It .It. Munich is elected by Italians who are of legal age and reside in the Bavarian administrative districts of Upper Bavaria , Lower Bavaria , Swabia and Upper Palatinate .

Carmine Macaluso has been a member of the SPD since 2001 . In the state elections in Bavaria in 2013 , he ran as a direct candidate in the Kaufbeuren district and in 11th place on the Schwaben constituency list. He received 12.3% of the vote. He is an assessor on the board of the SPD Kaufbeuren Stadt. From 2006 to 2010 he was also chairman of the council for foreigners in the city of Kaufbeuren.

In 2013, when he ran for the state elections, he did not run for the national chairmanship of ACLI Germany . In this office he was succeeded by Duilio Zanibellato . He is again the state chairman of ACLI Bavaria .

Others

Macaluso has been a member of the Bavarian Teachers' Association (BLLV) since 1985 . He is married and has three children.

Awards

Macaluso has received several awards for his efforts to intensify German-Italian cooperation. In October 2001, Federal President Johannes Rau awarded him the Medal of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Three years later, the city council of his hometown Viagrande honored him with the Silver Eagle (Aquila d'Argento). In February 2007 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon from the Bavarian Agriculture Minister Josef Miller . In 2009 he was awarded the Commander's Cross (Commendatore) of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic . In 2012 he was awarded the international “ Santi Correnti ” prize by the Elefantino Society from Catania in cooperation with the Institute for Romance Studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin . The award goes to important Sicilians who have made a contribution to promoting European integration processes and promoting Sicily's image .
