Josef Miller (born July 12, 1947 in Oberschöneberg ) is a German politician ( CSU ) and was Minister of State in the Bavarian State Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Forests from 1998 to 2008 (1998-2001), then in the Bavarian State Ministry for Agriculture and Forests.

education and profession

After training as a farmer, intermittent work as a construction worker and obtaining the secondary school leaving certificate in 1966, he made up his Abitur in 1969 at the Bayernkolleg Augsburg and studied agricultural sciences at the Technical University of Munich-Weihenstephan from 1969 to 1972 , which he graduated with a diploma . During his studies he became a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. Agilolfia Freising in the CV . After a two-year legal traineeship and obtaining the state examination in 1974, he worked as a business advisor at the Department of Agriculture in Memmingen until 1977 , then lectured on economics and agricultural policy at the State Management Academy in Munich until 1979 and then moved to the Bavarian State Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Forestry , to which he belonged until 1986 - most recently as a ministerial advisor and public relations officer.

Private

Josef Miller is Roman Catholic. In his youth he was a member of the Catholic rural youth movement (KLJB) . He is married and has two children. The church wedding took place in the pilgrimage church of Maria Vesperbild .

Political party

From 1988 to 2011 he was CSU district chairman in Memmingen, has been honorary chairman of the CSU district association of Memmingen since April 4, 2011 and a member of the Memmingen city council since May 1, 1996. Furthermore, he was a member of the district and state board of the CSU as well as deputy state chairman of the CSU agriculture working group.

Public offices

From 1986 to 2014 he was for the constituency of Memmingen in the Bavarian state parliament . In 1990 he was appointed State Secretary in the Bavarian State Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Forests and held this office until 1993. In November 1994 he became deputy chairman of the CSU parliamentary group in the Bavarian state parliament. From this position he was appointed Bavarian State Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forests in October 1998. From 2001 to 2008 he was Minister of State for Agriculture and Forests. He handed this office over to Helmut Brunner in October 2008 . On July 11, 2012, he announced that he would no longer run for the state elections in 2013.

From 2009 to 2016, Josef Miller was the first chairman of the German Forest Protection Association in the Bavarian State Association.
