The Funk Group is the largest independent insurance broker in Germany. The system house supports companies in matters of insurance and risk management as well as provision. The company employs around 1,320 people at 35 international locations.

history

In 1879 Theodor Funk founded the general agency Th. Funk in Berlin , the focus of which was the transport insurance business. In 1922 Leberecht Funk, the son of the company's founder, founded Funk & Laude in order to give greater flexibility to the business, which has now been expanded to include various branches and insurance companies. Leberecht Funk and Ulrich Funk from the third Funk generation joined the company in 1933. They set new impulses by expanding medium-sized and large industrial business.

After the Second World War, Leberecht Funk sen. and his son Leberecht Funk started the reconstruction of the Berlin companies L. Funk & Söhne and L. Funk Versicherungsdienst from Hamburg . Ulrich Funk and Heinz Winkelmann and the younger brothers from the third Funk generation, Klaus and Heinz Funk, rebuilt L. Funk & Sons and L. Funk Versicherungsdienst from Hamburg.

In addition, branches were established in Germany - the first locations were Hamburg , Essen , Frankfurt , Hanover , Munich and Reutlingen . From 1973 the expansion of the international business followed. For this purpose, the company Funk, Stewart Wrightson (International) GmbH was founded in London in 1973 , which has been operating under Funk International GmbH since 1987. In 1980 the company was handed over from the third to the fourth generation of management. Leberecht Funk, Jörg-Heiner Funk and Dieter Schwanke managed the business of the group together with Wolfgang Bühler as shareholders. After the inner-German border opened in 1989, branches were opened in Erfurt , Dresden , Leipzig and Schwerin in 1990 .

Further milestones: In 1991, BauSecura Versicherungsmakler GmbH, based in Hamburg, was founded - a specialist broker for the housing industry. 1994 was the founding year of the European brokerage house FDG (Funk Diot GrECo SA, Luxembourg) and Funk, through the "Funk, The European Alliance", together with cooperation partners, created the platform for close global cooperation, the pooling of resources and know-how. Transfer. In 1997, Funk founded Funk Hospital-Versicherungsmakler GmbH for hospitals .

In 2000, Funk launched an integrated business risk management system with RMCE. Following its own international locations in Poland , Italy and the Netherlands , Funk's own international presence was expanded between 2000 and 2006 to include additional locations in Austria , Hungary and Romania . Also in 2000, Funk founded its own partner network “The Funk Alliance” with 300 offices in more than 100 countries in order to support customers worldwide.

In the field of company pension schemes , Funk strengthened this business area in 2009 with the acquisition of Böhm Consultants. In 2008, Funk took a stake in GWP, one of the three largest Swiss brokerage houses, and later took it over entirely. Since 2011, the Funk pension specialists have been active under Funk Pension Advice and Funk Pension Management. In 2014 the Swiss company changed its name to Funk Insurance Brokers (Switzerland).

In 2016, Funk merged its two brokerage firms, L. Funk & Söhne GmbH and Funk International GmbH, into a large brokerage firm and renamed it "Funk Versicherungsmakler GmbH". At the same time, the risk management subsidiary Funk RMCE GmbH was renamed Funk Risk Consulting GmbH. In August 2018, Funk opened a national company based in Vaduz in the Principality of Liechtenstein . The company has also had an office in Shanghai since 2019.

According to the ranking “The top 100 service providers in German medium-sized companies” by the medium-sized company portal “Die Deutsche Wirtschaft (DDW)”, Funk is among the top 50 medium-sized service providers in Germany (49th place). Funk has been awarded the TOP JOB employer seal several times, most recently in 2018. The company's own Funk Academy also offers an internal training program for employees. The shareholder Anja Funk-Münchmeyer has also been co-editor of the book "Insurance and Innovation" since 2016, which is published annually by VVW Verlag and presents innovative insurance concepts.
