Furcraea longaeva is a species of the genus Furcraea in the subfamily of the agave family (Agavoideae). The specific epithet longaeva is derived from the Latin words longus for 'long' and aevurn for 'lifespan' and refers to the assumed longevity of the species. The species forms the highest inflorescenceswithin the genus Furcraea .

Furcraea longaeva grows with stem-forming leaf rosettes . The unbranched trunk reaches heights of up to 5 meters or more. The stiffly outwardly curved, (clasp) lanceolate leaves are somewhat pointed. Their gray, concave leaf blades are up to 200 centimeters long and 8 to 15 centimeters wide. The leaf margins are covered with tiny marginal teeth.

The wide inflorescence reaches a height of 5 to 13 meters and has a short stem. It is not known whether he wears bulbils . The downy-haired flowers are 30 to 40 millimeters long. Your tepals are significantly shorter than the 20 to 25 millimeter long ovary .

The elongated fruits are narrowed at their base. They contain seeds 4 millimeters long and 6 millimeters wide .

Systematics and distribution

Furcraea longaeva is common in the Mexican states of Guerrero , Oaxaca, and Puebla .

The first description by Karl Heinrich Koch was published in 1768. Furcraea longaeva is classified in the genus in the Serrulatae section .

Synonyms are Beschorneria floribunda hort. ex K. Koch (1862) and Furcraea longa J.J.Sm. (1897).
