Live and act

Géza Frid (ca.1935)

Introduced to music by his musical mother at an early age, he had his first public appearance at the age of 6. In 1912 he moved to Budapest in order to put his training on a solid foundation by studying at the Franz Liszt Academy. He studied piano with Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály . He passed his exams at the University of Music in Budapest in 1924. In 1926 he went on an extensive concert tour to Italy . In 1927 his first string quartet was performed in Budapest and London . In the following two years he made concert tours throughout Europe with the violinist Zoltán Székely . In 1929 he settled in Amsterdam and relocated there. His compositions received international recognition ( France , Switzerland , United States , Great Britain ). During the occupation from 1940 to 1945 he protested, like other artists in the Netherlands , with a concert strike. He escaped the imprisonment and deportation of foreign Jews from the Netherlands.

In 1948 he received Dutch citizenship . In 1948 and 1949 he undertook a concert tour through Indonesia , where he attended 48 concert dates. This gave him the position of conductor of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra of Jakarta . As a result, he received numerous awards and prizes. In 1951 he started a second concert tour through Indonesia and then through the Kingdom of Siam and Egypt . Further tours followed through Great Britain, a third in Indonesia, Israel (1962) and the Soviet Union (1963) together with the singer Erna Spoorenberg . In the following years further tours were on the program (again Israel, Turkey , Italy , South and North America 1965, Suriname , Netherlands Antilles , Venezuela , United States and Canada ).

In 1964 he was appointed professor at the Conservatory of Utrecht in professional chamber music appointed.
