Erna Spoorenberg (* 11 April 1926 in Yogyakarta , Java as Huberdina Aletta Spoorenberg ; † 18th March 2004 in Vught ) was a Dutch singer of the vocal range soprano . She is best known for her roles in operas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart .

Erna Spoorenberg was the daughter of Dutch parents, Wilhelmus Hubertus Barbara Spoorenberg (born June 1, 1882 in Helmond ) and Thérèse Agnes Backer Overbeek (born August 4, 1880 in Oisterwijk ), with whom she came to the Netherlands in 1929.

She studied violin, among others with Julius Röntgen , and singing, among others with Isa Neuhaus and Aaltje Noordewier-Reddingius . During her studies at the Amsterdam Conservatory , she decided to pursue a career as a singer.

In 1947 she made her debut on Radio Hilversum with the motet Exsultate, jubilate by Mozart. In 1949 she introduced herself to Karl Böhm and received a contract at the Vienna State Opera , where she made her debut with Pamina in the Magic Flute . In 1955 she returned to the Netherlands and made her debut at the Dutch Opera Amsterdam as Violetta in La traviata by Giuseppe Verdi. In 1958 she became a permanent member of the Dutch Opera. Guest performances took her to Hamburg and Berlin, in 1963 and 1965 to the Soviet Union, where she appeared at the Bolshoi Theater , among others , and in 1967 to the United States.

Her repertoire of operatic roles included roles from Mozart operas such as Die Zauberflöte ( Pamina ), Die Entführung aus dem Serail ( Konstanze ), Don Giovanni ( Donna Elvira ), Così fan tutte ( Fiordiligi ) and Le nozze di Figaro . She also sang Norina ( Don Pasquale , Gaetano Donizetti), Laura ( Der Bettelstudent , Karl Millöcker), Frau Fluth ( Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor , Otto Nicolai), Adele ( Die Fledermaus , Johann Strauss Sohn), Gilda ( Rigoletto , Giuseppe Verdi ) and parts from Elektra (Richard Strauss) and Hoffmann's stories (Jacques Offenbach).

In addition to her operatic career, she also appeared in Johann Sebastian Bach's St. Matthew Passion in Naarden and gave concerts in which she was accompanied by pianist Géza Frid , among others .

Her last stage appearance was on April 16, 1970 with Konstanze in “The Abduction from the Seraglio” at the Dutch Opera in Amsterdam.

From 1970 she began to work as a singing teacher. From 1970 to 1977 she taught at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels and from 1971 to 1978 at the Amsterdam Conservatory. From 1978 she worked as a private teacher. She initiated the “Erna Spoorenberg Vocalisten Presentatie” competition. She was the recipient of the Harriet Cohen International Music Awards and in 2002 became Commander of the Order of Orange-Nassau .

Erna Spoorenberg lived in Vught from 1983. Shortly before her death, she made her personal archive available to the Dutch Theater Institute.
