JJ Slauerhoff

Jan Jacob Slauerhoff (pseudonym John Ravenswood; born September 15, 1898 in Leeuwarden , Netherlands , † October 5, 1936 in Hilversum ) was a Dutch writer.

Life

Slauerhoff studied medicine at the University of Amsterdam and worked as a ship's doctor from 1923 . He made numerous trips to the east and west Indian islands, to China and Africa. He was close to the French Poète maudits . Slauerhoff published his first works in the magazines De Vrije Bladen and Forum and developed into one of the most important Dutch poets after the First World War.
