Göran Söllscher (born December 31, 1955 in Växjö ) is a Swedish classical guitarist .

Life

Göran Söllscher grew up in Kalmar and took guitar lessons when he was seven. He attended the Conservatory in Malmö from 1975 to 1977 and the Royal Conservatory in Copenhagen from 1976 to 1979 . In 1978 he won one of the most prestigious guitar competitions of the time, the Concours International de Guitare in Paris, and was then offered a record deal by Deutsche Grammophon . With two exceptions, Söllscher subsequently published exclusively on this label.

Söllscher has been a member of the Royal Swedish Music Academy since 1992, and has been a professor at Lund University in Malmö since 1993 .

Göran Söllscher studied with Per-Olof Johnson (1928-2000), who among other things played an eleven-string alto guitar by Georg Bolin. Söllscher also uses an eleven-string instrument, especially for baroque lute music.

Söllscher is an enthusiastic golf player and shares this passion with David Russell ("I think we have never spoken a word about playing guitar. We have talked a lot about golf, however.")

A concerto for guitar and orchestra , composed by Erland von Koch and completed in 1982, is dedicated to Göran Söllscher and was premiered by him in Gothenburg.
