Gumbet

Gümbet is a tourist destination on the southwest coast of Turkey in the Bodrum district of the Muğla Province . Formerly a small village, it is now part of the Bodrum Municipality .

location

Gümbet is located on the south side of the Bodrum Peninsula between the center of Bodrum City and the municipality of Bitez . The old town of Bodrum is about three kilometers away in the northeast of the town. From there a promenade road leads along the coast of the Gulf of Gökova to Gümbet. From the local beach the view extends to the offshore Greek island of Kos .

history

The village of Gümbet developed into the entertainment district of the Bodrum Peninsula with the tourism boom in the 1970s. The development of the place grew together with the city of Bodrum. Gümbet became an attraction for young vacationers from many countries. In addition to the long sandy beaches on the Aegean Sea , numerous bars and discos form the basis of the town's tourism industry.

Attractions

From the old mills on the hill towards Bodrum there is a good view of both sides of Gümbet Bay. The underwater museum in Sankt Peter Castle in Bodrum shows the Uluburun ship , a wreck from the Bronze Age . The old town of Bodrum is also worth seeing. A weekly market takes place every Saturday in Gümbet.

traffic

The place is well developed by road. Buses run from Bodrum to Gümbet via the country road. The journey from Bodrum bus station takes about 20 minutes.
