Ortakentyahşi is the main town of Bucak Ortakent and a municipality belonging to the Bodrum district in the Muğla Province in southwest Turkey .

Ortakent is located in the middle of the Bodrum Peninsula, on the main road connecting the city of Bodrum with the west of the peninsula ( Turgutreis ). The municipality has access to the Aegean Sea on the south coast of the peninsula. The island of Celebi Adası is in front of the beach settlement.

In 1999 the neighboring town of Yahşi was incorporated. Mayor is Mehmet Onur Şahbaz.

economy

While agriculture played a major role in earlier times (cultivation of mandarins , figs and olives ; cattle farming ), tourism is now becoming more and more important. In recent years, more and more hotels and restaurants have emerged. A beach promenade and a place for concerts and performances were also built. Cottage settlements are being built between the inland villages of Ortakent and Yahsi and the associated beaches. There is an aqua park on the main road to Bodrum . Every Wednesday there is a bazaar in the center of Ortakent . Every year at the beginning of January, Ortakent hosts a camel fight .

education

The town has the public Dr. Mümtaz Ataman primary school and the private Marmara school with a kindergarten, primary school and high school.

Attractions

There are two Ottoman defense towers in the village , which Mustafa Paşa and his brother Ahmet Paşa had built in the 17th century .
