Akyarlar is a village in Turkey . Akyarlar is located in the Bodrum district in the southwest of the Bodrum Peninsula, in the Muğla Province , on the Aegean Sea . The village is part of the municipality of Turgutreis . The Greek island of Kos is five kilometers away . There is a primary school. A bazaar is held on Thursdays . Dolmuş collective taxis connect the place with Turgutreis and Bodrum. Near the village is the dormant Akyarlar volcano , the southeasternmost volcano of the volcanic arc of the southern Aegean .

history

The ancient name of the settlement is Arhialla. In 1923, Turkish citizens of the Greek Orthodox Faith were resettled to Greece under the Convention on the Exchange of Population between Greece and Turkey .
