Günter Borrmann

Günter Borrmann (born March 11, 1926 ; † February 14, 2017 in Leipzig ) was a German sports scientist , university professor and gymnastics official .

Life

On June 7, 1956, Borrmann was the first doctoral candidate in the history of the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) to defend his dissertation. The title of his doctoral thesis was "On the development of movement skills in apparatus gymnastics: a contribution to research into technology and the movement errors occurring in the educational process of teaching and their causes".

He became professor for theory and methodology of training in apparatus gymnastics at the DHfK. He was the deputy director for research in Section IV and head of the science department for technical-compositional sports, i.e. for the sports of apparatus gymnastics , gymnastics , figure skating , and diving . From 1973 to 1975 he was dean of the faculty for sports methodology. Borrmann published several textbooks on the subject of gymnastics, including "Apparatus gymnastics in school" (in 1957), "Theory of gymnastics: Instructions for distance learning" (1964), "Apparatus gymnastics: a textbook for trainers, trainers and sports teachers" (1972) , and “Selected problems regarding training methodology for young gymnasts” (1978). In addition, he dealt with the further development of training in the field of theory and methodology of training in technical-compositional sports as well as competitive gymnastics in an international context.

As a functionary, Borrmann held the office of chairman of the German Gymnastics Association (DTV) of the German Democratic Republic from 1970 to 1990 . As part of the unification process between DTV and the German German Gymnastics Federation (DTB), he was a co-opted member of the DTB Presidium from 1990 to 1992. He was a member of the National Olympic Committee of the GDR and was also involved in the World Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
