Günter Löffler

Günter Löffler (born August 6, 1921 in Thale ; † January 1, 2013 ) was a German teacher , translator and writer .

Life

Löffler was born in the Harz Mountains in 1921 . From 1931 to 1937 he attended the boys' secondary school in Dessau and obtained secondary school leaving certificate . He started studying foreign languages ​​at a special school in Leipzig, but was soon drafted into the Wehrmacht . After basic training in the army (Wehrmacht) , he was deployed on the Eastern Front, where he was wounded. After his recovery, he was transferred to the Africa Corps in 1942 . There Löffler was taken prisoner by the US Army . In a prisoner of war camp in the United States he had the opportunity to improve his language skills in English and Russian. Günter Löffler returned to Dessau from captivity and was employed as a teacher for English and Russian at the Extended High School Philanthropinum Dessau . He began 1953, a philological study of English language and literature and Slavic studies at the Martin Luther University in Halle . He later moved to the University of Leipzig , where he successfully completed his studies. Until his retirement Günter Löffler worked as a foreign language teacher at the Philanthropinum. He also translated literary works, including those by Vladimir Fyodorowitsch Tendryakov , Konstantin Michailowitsch Simonow , Jack London and James Fenimore Cooper , worked as an interpreter and published several of his own children's books and novels . Günter Löffler lived with his wife in Berlin since 1989 .
