Günter Reichert

Günter Reichert (born February 21, 1941 in Mährisch Ostrau ) is a German historian and political scientist . From 1992 to 2000 he was President of the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb).

Life

1946 his family was from Ostrava sold . Reichert studied political science , history and international law at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg , the Free University of Berlin and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 1971 he was with Karl Dietrich Bracher at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Bonn with the dissertation The Failure of the Little Entente. International relations in the Danube region from 1933 to 1938 with Dr. phil. PhD .

During his studies he became a member of the German Guild (DG). He was federal chairman of the working group Sudeten German Students (ASST) and was involved in the Sudeten German youth .

From 1970 to 1973 Reichert was a press and public relations officer at the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb). From 1973 to 1992 he was - himself a CDU member - scientific advisor to the CDU / CSU parliamentary group and from 1982 to 1990 as office manager of the parliamentary group chairman Alfred Dregger in Bonn. From 1992 to 2000 he was President of the Federal Agency for Civic Education.

During the visit of Israeli President Weizman in 1996, Ignatz Bubis was congratulated by Günter Reichert "on the speech of" his "head of state. Bubis replied: “Oh, President Herzog always makes good speeches”, but Reichert insisted on making Bubis a foreigner - “I mean your President, Mr. Weizman.” Bubis mentioned this later in a speech at a meeting of the Allianz- Group in Frankfurt / Main.

From 2000 to 2003 he was head of the administrative aid project group for Central and Eastern European countries in the Federal Ministry of the Interior in Berlin.

Reichert was a member of the presidium of the Federation of Expellees (bdv) from 1984 to 1992 and from 1963 a member of the Federal Assembly of the Sudeten German Landsmannschaft and the Sudeten German Council (SR). In 2002 he became regional chairman of the Sudeten German Landsmannschaft in North Rhine-Westphalia. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Sudeten German Foundation and from 2002 chaired the Central Europe Academy. Since 2009 he has been chairman of the Sudeten German Social and Educational Organization Foundation.

Reichert is of Roman Catholic denomination, is married and has two children.
