Günter Saße

Günter Saße (born October 13, 1945 in Eutin ) is a German Germanist .

Life

Günter Saße studied German , philosophy and geography from 1967 in Kiel and Freiburg im Breisgau , where he passed the state examination in 1972.

From 1974 to 1976, Saße was a research assistant at the German seminar at the Georg-August University in Göttingen , after which a research assistant there . In 1976 he received his doctorate in Freiburg im Breisgau with a study on the language criticism of modernity . In 1984 he completed his habilitation in Göttingen with a thesis on the family value system in the drama of the Enlightenment and received the Venia Legendi for German Philology .

In 1985 Günter Saße was a professor at the German Department of the University of Göttingen. From 1986 until his retirement in 2011 he was professor for modern German literary history at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg . Saße is best known as a Goethe and Lessing researcher and is an expert on the social history of the literature of the 18th and 19th centuries as well as the literature of the modern age.
