Günter Karl Stalla (born December 10, 1953 ) is a German internist , researcher and university professor.

Life

Stalla studied human medicine from 1974 to 1980 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . Here he received his doctorate in experimental endocrinology in 1980 . He completed his clinical training as a specialist in internal medicine (1990), specializing in endocrinology and diabetology (1991) at the medical clinic downtown of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. In 1995 Stalla was appointed professor of internal medicine . In 2004 he acquired the additional title of andrology .

In 1990 Stalla was appointed research group leader for clinical neuroendocrinology and head of internal medicine, endocrinology and clinical chemistry at the Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry in Munich. Since July 2018 he has been head of the MVZ MEDICOVER Neuroendocrinology Prof. Stalla and colleagues with the study center, and since 2020 he has also been the general manager / site manager of the MVZ MEDICOVER Neuroendocrinology and Rheumatology in Munich.

Act

From 2012 to 2014 Stalla was President of the European Neuroendocrine Association. In 2002, as Congress President, he headed the annual meeting of the European Neuroendocrine Association in Munich, in 2016 the joint meeting of the German Society for Endocrinology, the Austrian Society for Endocrinology and Metabolism and the Swiss Society for Endocrinology and Diabetology as well as the Congress of the European Society of Endocrinology, both in Munich. Stalla has been President of the German Society for Endocrinology since July 2020.

Stalla is a medical reviewer for the National Anti-Doping Agency Germany and the International Paralympic Committee and reviewer of scientific journals, including Andrologia, Cell and Tissue Research, Endocrinology, European Journal of Endocrinology, Endocrine Oncology and Metabolism, Experimental and Clinical Endocrinology and Diabetes, Frontiers in Neuroendocrine Science, Frontiers in Pituitary Endocrinology, Journal of Endocrinological Investigation, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Metabolism, Neuroendocrinology, Research in Experimental Medicine.

Stalla is particularly interested in the development of disorders of the function of the pituitary gland ( pituitary gland ), in particular the mechanisms that underlie the excessive release of hormones by pituitary tumors . He also deals with the pituitary insufficiency caused by traumatic brain injuries . His work as a doctor focuses on diseases of the [pituitary gland], metabolic disorders, obesity , sexual development disorders and transsexuality .

Stalla has published 460 scientific publications.
