Günther Leopold Prince von Schwarzburg-Sondershausen (born July 2, 1832 in Arnstadt , † April 20, 1906 in Berlin ) was a Prussian officer , most recently a general of the cavalry .

Life

Leopold was the son of Prince Günther Friedrich Carl II of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen (1801–1889) and his second wife, Princess Mathilde (1814–1888), daughter of Prince August von Hohenlohe-Öhringen .

After his education at the Blochmann Institute in Dresden as well as in Geneva and Berlin , Leopold joined the Guard Cuirassier Regiment on April 24, 1851 as a second lieutenant . In the further course of his military career he took part in the battles at Skalitz and Schweinschädel as well as the Battle of Königgrätz during the German War in 1866 .

After Leopold had received the rank of General of the Cavalry on December 24, 1889, he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 1st Class with Swords on the Ring, for his services on June 18, 1896 .

Leopold died unmarried in Berlin. He was buried in the princely burial chapel of the Trinity Church in the Schwarzburg royal seat of Sondershausen .
