Günther Ortmann

Günther Ortmann (* 1945 ) is a German business economist and professor of leadership at the Reinhard Mohn Institute for Corporate Management at the University of Witten / Herdecke . From 1997 until his retirement in 2010 he was Professor of General Business Administration at the Helmut Schmidt University / University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg .

biography

After graduating from high school in 1964 at the Athenaeum Stade and studying business administration and business education at the Free University of Berlin with degrees in business administration (1969) and business teacher (1975), Ortmann received his doctorate in 1975 with a dissertation on the subject of corporate goals - genesis and content. On the criticism of business and organizational-sociological drafts of a theory of corporate goals at the Free University of Berlin. The first reviewer of the work was Alfred Kieser . In 1978 he received his habilitation for the teaching and research field of business administration from Faculty III at the University of Oldenburg .

From 1970 to 1975 he worked as a research assistant at the Faculty of Economics at the Free University of Berlin . He then moved to the University of Oldenburg . There he was from 1976 to 1982 scientific assistant for "economics with a focus on the theory of business" and from 1982 to 1988 professor for business administration with a focus on personnel and training. In 1988 he accepted a professorship for business administration, especially planning and organization, at the University of Wuppertal . In 1997 he became professor for general business administration at the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg. He has been Professor of Leadership at the University of Witten / Herdecke since 2014 and a member of the Reinhard Mohn Institute for Management there since 2016.

Günther Ortmann has held a number of teaching positions and visiting professorships at the University of Vienna , the University of Innsbruck , the University of Lucerne and the University of St. Gallen . He was also director of the Institute for Research into Social Opportunities (ISO Cologne) from 1996 to 1997.

His main research interests are in the areas of organizational theory and sociology, strategic management, decision-making and leadership. He worked empirically u. a. with issues of power in organizations.

Günther Ortmann is married to the cultural scientist and philosopher Iris Därmann .
