Günther Schubert (soccer player)

Günther Schubert (born January 11, 1955 in Velbert ; † June 2, 2002 ) was a German football goalkeeper .

Life

Schubert visited the youth boarding school of FC Schalke 04 together with Hans-Günter Bruns . In the 1976/77 season he was part of the Bundesliga squad of miners , however, came behind goalkeeper Enver Maric , the former "number one" of the Yugoslav national team , barely into play. In September 1976 he was only used once in the UEFA Cup and in three league games.

He stayed in the Oberliga Nordrhein for two years with the Westmünsterländer; after rising again in 1980, he moved to Belgium, where he played for some smaller clubs and was twice goalkeeper of the year . Later he was active a few times in the traditional Schalke team.

Günther Schubert died of a heart attack at the age of 47 .
