The GHWE No. 51 to 53 were diesel multiple units of the Gardelegen-Haldensleben-Weferlinger Railway . They were manufactured in 1939 by the Dessauer Waggonfabrik . They were taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1949 as VT 135 536-538 and were given the new EDP designation 186 025-027 from 1970 .

history

In 1939 these three vehicles were procured from the Gardelegen-Haldensleben-Weferlinger Railway as the first diesel multiple units. They were supposed to replace the used double-decker rail buses GHWE T1 – T9 , which had arisen from BVG buses and which had problems in operation. Compared to the wooden planked seats of the steam trains, the railcars had upholstered seats, which represented a significant increase in comfort. The vestibules of the railcars were designed as load compartments with a total of ten folding seats. In 1940 the fourth diesel multiple unit with the designation GHWE No. 61 followed , which was equipped with a two-engine system. The other technical parameters were essentially the same.

The railcars were sufficiently motorized that they could be used in sidecar operation.

VT 135 536-538 / 186 025-027

The railcars were taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the GDR after 1950 and designated as VT 135 536 to VT 135 538 . They were taken out of service by 1972, after they had previously been given the EDP designation 186 025 to 186 027 .

VB 508-510

Three smaller trailer cars were procured with the railcars, which also came from Waggonbau Dessau . At the Deutsche Reichsbahn these were designated as VB 140 508 to VB 140 510 .

The sidecars were in use until the mid-1980s, of which the former VB 140 508 has been preserved. It was first used as a hobby room at a model railway club. Then the Brandenburg Museum for Small and Private Railways bought it and restored it to the condition of the Deutsche Reichsbahn. There is also a model of the vehicle on sale.

Constructive features

The railcars, which were among the largest railcars of small and private railways, had 7,000 mm wheelbase and 13,470 mm length over buffers. They were designed for sufficient load transport in the anteroom, the anteroom had external doors of 750 mm clear width, which could be enlarged to 1000 mm clear width by additional fold-out wall parts. The entrance area at the rear in the direction of travel was used as an additional luggage and load space. For this, the drive switch could be locked with a roller shutter.

The diesel-mechanical machine system originally consisted of a Junkers 7.5 t and, after a modification that was not known at the time, a VOMAG GR 3080 and a Mylius gearbox . The railcar had 56 seats.
