Gabriel José Urdaneta Rangel (born January 7, 1976 in Mérida ) is a former Venezuelan football player , he has played on the position of midfielder .

Gabriel Urdaneta started his career at Caracas Fútbol Club . For the 2000/01 season he moved to FC Luzern in the National League A , where he stayed for one and a half seasons before moving to SV Waldhof Mannheim in the 2nd Bundesliga . He was unable to assert himself in Mannheim , which is why he returned to Switzerland for FC Lugano during the 2003/04 season . Since he was hardly used here either, at the end of the season he switched again to SC Kriens in the Challenge League , where he was used regularly. In the 2004/05 season, the Venezuelan moved to BSC Young Boys , where he was rarely used in his second season, which is why he moved on to FC Vaduz . At the end of the 2005/06 season, FC Vaduz dissolved the contract with Urdaneta. He moved back to UA Maracaibo in Venezuela. He played in the Venezuelan first division for a few more years. In mid-2011 he returned to Switzerland, where he joined FC Köniz in the 1st League Classic . At the end of the 2012/13 season he rose with his team in the first division promotion . In the summer of 2014 he ended his active career.

In the summer of 2017, Urdaneta became Bernard Pulver's assistant at FC Köniz. At the beginning of 2019, he took over the post of head coach for the club's second team.
