Gabriela Büssemaker (born February 6, 1956 in Nuremberg ) is a German politician ( FDP ) and from February 2012 to November 2014 was the head of Engagement Global gGmbH, which works on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Büssemaker graduated from the German School in Brussels in 1974 and then studied Romance studies , philosophy and business administration without completing it. In 1979/80 she completed an apprenticeship as a lawyer and notary assistant . From 1980 to 1995 she worked as an office manager for various lawyers and notaries. In 1995 she started her own business with an event agency.

From 1992 to 1997 Büssemaker was managing director of the FDP district association Ludwigshafen am Rhein . In 1998 she was elected to the board of directors of the FDP Mannheim and in 2001 to the regional board of the FDP Baden-Württemberg . From 2002 to 2003 she was chairwoman of the Mannheim district association. Büssemaker ran against incumbent Josef Offele ( CDU ) in the Mayor election in Ettlingen in 2003 and prevailed with 53.4 percent of the vote. In 2009 she became vice-chairwoman of the Association of Liberal Local Politicians .

Büssemaker's appointment as managing director of Engagement Global gGmbH by the BMZ from February 2012 was criticized in connection with the personnel policy of the Development Minister Dirk Niebel . In March 2013, the Federal Court of Auditors judged the salary classification of Büssemakers as “clearly overrated” and the personnel policy of the gGmbH it manages as “not economical”.

On November 19, 2014, the BMZ announced in a press release that the Büssemakers contract, which expired on January 31, 2015, would not be extended. The former Federal Commissioner for Community Service , Jens Kreuter , was named as her successor .
